I wanted to make a correction to the story that was published in the Wednesday, March 3 issue of The Butler Collegian.
The story titled “Faculty continues college debate” contains several errors.
First, the byline on the story is wrong. It says that I, Hayleigh Colombo, was the reporter assigned to cover the story.
After speaking at the forum addressing the proposal for the College of Communication last week, I decided to remove myself from covering the story’s progress to avoid any conflict of interest that continuing to cover the story may have created.
The correct writer of the story is Grace Wallace, The Butler Collegian’s Assistant News Editor. Due to an unintended oversight, my name was attributed to the story instead.
Second, Nancy Whitmore is attributed incorrectly as “Journalism Department Chair.” Whitmore is the director of the Eugene S. Pulliam School of Journalism.
Lastly, the paragraph about the proposal’s next steps is unclear.
At this point, if 40 percent of Faculty Senators see fit that the vote to endorse the proposed college should be voted on by all faculty members at Butler University, the vote to endorse will be turned over to an all-faculty vote.
On behalf of The Butler Collegian, I deeply regret these mistakes as well as any impressions they may have made on our readers.
In the future, our staff will strive to better maintain the sense of accuracy, fairness and truth that always stand at the center of good journalism and avoid errors such as these.
